NEW YORK FASHION WEEK FORGET THE BOUNDARIES

Blancore’s Fall/Winter 2020.

BLANCORE brought a totally fresh silhouette to the runway for Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020. Blancore’s Designer YALAN LI crafted a futuristic collection that sometimes looked like bits and pieces of left-over fabrics from other garments, but put together in a very creative way to form cohesive garments….and it worked. `Forget the Boundaries’ was the title of the show, and according to program notes, the designer paid homage to “Lost Elf – The Elf from Lost Land.”

UNIQUE ELEMENTSYalan opened the misc-en-scene with an actual modern-day elf model, followed by clothes that were shaped and draped in mismatched colors, but bursting with creative design elements including asymmetric cuts, geometric shapes, and some unique sleeve treatments. Everything was loose and gave freedom of movement to the body. Shift dresses were festooned by ribbons tied and flowing, a tunic was embellished by panels of different fabrics and colors. A loose oatmeal tunic with orange borders and flared long sleeves came over a rust skirt with an undulating hemline. LOST ELF Basically, the show centered around images of elves from an environmental point of view – the reusable fabric, and the issue of  things missed and neglected which reflected on the side of `fine but ignored.’ “`Lost Elf’ was born from the forgotten memories. They live in abandoned toys and dirty trash. They are different from the beautiful and pure fairies from the fairy tales.” noted the designer. “Humans tend to look at the beautiful side and ignore the bad side `Lost Elf’ represents the other side of beauty, just like the trash in our ocean, deforestation and carbon emission.”

FAMILY Designer Yalan Li was born into a family of fabric experts that her father created in Asia. She studied with American Scholars and her passionate pursuit of art and art history, inspired her to create and establish a fashion brand in the USA, as opposed to becoming a part of the management of her family’s business.
