They only need a minor adjustment, such as an extra layer or a different accessory. With bright colors and bold patterns expected to be on-trend this autumn, transitioning your summer wardrobe to the cooler months has never been easier. We’ve consulted fashion experts to bring you the five fashion staples you should consider adding to your autumn wardrobe.
1. The statement boot
“The Western trend continues to gain momentum thanks to Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ album, which pays homage to her Texas roots. Celebrities like Katie Holmes and Sienna Miller are leading the way by sporting classic cowboy boots,” says Paul Donnelly, a shoe expert at Heavenly Feet.

In the upcoming autumn, expect to see a shift to somber footwear such as chunky buckled bikers and comfortable Chelsea boots. Black is anticipated to be the critical color choice for the season.
2. 90s skinnies
From skinny scarfs to tight jeans, the Nineties skin-tight silhouette is back with a bang, whether we like it or not. Thankfully, this style is less daunting to rock in autumn without considering the summer’s heat.

If Kate Moss’s skinny jeans are too extreme, consider wearing tight knee-high boots and accessorizing with skinny scarves. According to Donnelly, iconic knee-high boots are returning to style with the return of skinny jeans. Choosing chocolatey brown leather boots can help add warmth to your autumnal look.

3. Boho blouse
Chloe’s autumn/winter collection took January’s Fashion Weeks by storm. “Don’t ditch out those cowboy or biker boots just yet,” says celeb stylist Leroy Dawkins, “although Chloe went heavy with their boho wedge heels.”

Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sienna Miller’s ethereal frills have cemented the boho blouse as a staple for the autumn months—a great lightweight piece when we still may have a few sunny days on the cards.
4. Preppy Jacket
According to Ryan White, senior creative director from Fossil, deep hues and rich tones are autumn staples. “This season draws inspiration from the energy of late Nineties American culture,” says Ryan. “Think preppy.”

“The corporate and preppy look paired with Mary Janes, ballet flats, and wide-leg jeans gives the Nineties aesthetic a more modern edge,” says Dawkins. A sturdy coat is essential for your autumn wardrobe. This season, an oversized trench or blazer with a preppy style is a must.”

5. Bright and bold
The weather may be more muted, but that doesn’t mean our clothes should follow suit. Dawkins says, “We are normally used to wearing dark colors during autumn and winter, but get ready for some bright colors from pinks and reds to mustard yellows.”
“Red, was the the colour of autumn last year, with MSGM, Bottega Veneta and Jil Sander presenting red on their runways, whilst Hermès has presented red coats for the season.”

Paired with capsule basics such as crips white shirts and denim bootcut jeans, going bright and bold with statement pieces will be an intense look for autumn.
