Stella McCartney debuts new ‘it’ bag of the season at Paris Fashion Week

The British designer introduced a new “quiet luxury” bag that has attracted much attention.

Stella McCartney has unveiled a new “it” bag at Paris Fashion Week, stealing the spotlight from The Row’s Margaux bag, the current popular luxury bag accessory.

The new “quiet luxury” bag comes in various sizes, from micro minis to large weekenders. It features a cupid’s bow-shaped closure, bowling bag handles, and a structured square base. McCartney emphasizes that her accessories, made from faux leathers, crocs, and suedes, do not harm animals. Named the “Stella Ryder,” the bag is already available for pre-order on McCartney’s website. The larger shoulder bag version comes in black and brandy and retails for $1,650, while the smaller crossbody bag comes in black, brandy, and camel, costing $1275.

McCartney claimed that her accessories are available in a range of faux leathers, Crocs, and suedes and that no animals were harmed in making them.

McCartney, 53, is known for her ‘quiet luxury’ aesthetic and a timeless approach to fashion.

In 2018, Meghan Markle commissioned a British designer to design her wedding reception dress. This slinky white halterneck took the internet by storm with its demure Hollywood glamour silhouette, much like the understated elegance of a luxury bag.

The brand plans to replace McCartney’s iconic Falabella with the new bag as its most coveted tote.. The original vegan luxury handbag, named after McCartney’s favorite horse species, is immediately recognizable.

The style plays on hard and soft, with its smooth faux leather and heavy chained trim making it a cult classic. Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Kate Moss, and Meghan have worn the Falabella.

McCartney’s spring/summer 2025 show, ‘SAVE WHAT YOU LOVE,’ explored the relationship between people and wildlife, emphasizing birds.

The show occurred outside in the grey Parisian drizzle under the Eiffel Tower, and nature was a key component.

Responsible luxury is McCartney’s calling card. Linda and Paul McCartney raised the designer on an organic farm, and the designer is a lifelong vegetarian. She refuses to use leather, fur, and feathers in her clothing and accessories, aiming for elegant and ethical fashion. The latest collection reflects this ethos and includes a variety of luxurious bags.

This collection featured McCartney’s quintessential boxy blazers, exaggerated power suits, and playful sequins, crafted using the world’s first-ever luxury BioSequins—plastic-free and biodegradable sequin alternatives.

The workwear was avant-garde, playing with fluid form and function. Faux leather capes mimicked raven-like silhouettes: a talking bird representing prophecy and insight.

The cross-cut capes, skirts, and tops mirrored the closed wings of the bird, as did the broad-shouldered and tapered forms.

The collection’s neutral colors were nude taupes, baby blues, and blush pinks, accented by vivid vermillion on the catwalk.

McCartney played with drapery, excessive trains, and sheer layering as though the garments could imitate the ethereal elegance of a luxury bag taking flight at any moment.

The floating gowns had an ethereal bohemian quality, evoking the Seventies style of the season. With feminine drapes and sheer layering, the designer seemed to draw upon her influential tenure at the French fashion house Chloé between 1997 and 2001.

The heavens opened at the show’s end, causing audience members to leap from their seats as McCartney waved goodbye.
