London, April 2019 – This month, London-based start-up brand Holizm is launching its first product, the Dual backpack. Made for and by the run commuter, the innovative backpack has been specifically designed to balance style and functionality, allowing keen runners a seamless transition between run commuting, work and social life.
With balance at the core of the brand, the Dual backpack combines the durable and purposeful elements of a technical running backpack with the aesthetic of a stylish everyday bag, allowing run commuters to have one backpack that can be used an be used throughout the day and night, making it the perfect lifestyle companion for active urban living.
Founder of the brand, Astrid Simpson, is an avid runner and came up with the concept when she became frustrated with the inability to find a backpack that would serve both running and everyday use. Despite run commuting being the fastest-growing sports community in the world (Strava’s Year in Sport report 2018), it became apparent their needs were not being met when it came to the selection of running backpacks on the market. Looking to integrate fitness into their lives seamlessly, run commuters require a form-fitting bag that enables items to be carried to and from work comfortably whilst they run, but equally, one that can be used during meetings or after-work social occasions. With this in mind, she embarked on a mission to design a running backpack for today’s dynamic, urban run commuter.
The global crowdfunding campaign will launch on 29th April when supporters will be given the opportunity to purchase their own Dual backpack. Support of the campaign will not only bring the Dual backpack to life but will also support help Mind, with 10% of net profits being donated to the mental health charity.
Whilst specifically born out of the unmet needs of run commuters, the Dual backpack creates a superior backpack, unmatched by most other competitor products for a range of activities including winter sports, cycling, walking, and hiking. Successfully addressing the problems faced by today’s active consumer in areas of mobility, convenience, comfort, ergonomics, durability, and aesthetics, the Dual backpack boasts a number of breakthrough features:
Durable & 100% Waterproof
A combination of nylon technical body with polyester lining and polyurethane laminated zippers, the Dual backpack is waterproof and fit for the toughest weather conditions.
Comfortable & Supportive
Form-fitting padded and reinforced back and adjustable straps provide comfort for the body and distribute weight.
Secure & Stable
The combination of the wider sternum and pocket straps provide extra stability, and the form-fitting back sits close to the body to hold a load including a 13.3-inch laptop.
Versatile
Detachable sternum and belt pocket straps that can be reserved for use whilst running. The belt pocket straps also combine to form a bum bag for storing and carrying items. Reflective elements also increase visibility in low light conditions.
Convenient
Elasticated mobile phone and water bottle holders allow easy access whilst active.
Astrid Simpson comments: “As a run commuter myself, I’ve experienced the problem of not having a running backpack that can take me through a day of work and social outings first-hand. That’s why I created Holizm, I saw a real consumer need and at the same time a lack of innovation targeted towards the run commuting community. I’m very excited to be one of the few looking to launch a product specifically for their needs.
I’m also really excited to be able to support Mind by donating 10% of net profits from each bag sold to their incredibly worthwhile work. It felt like a natural fit for me to give back to a charity supporting mental health, as running is thought to be a great help for people dealing with anxiety, stress, and depression.
I really believe in living a balanced lifestyle, one that includes exercise, work and play, and through the creation of this new generation of a running bag, I hope I can help others to achieve this in a small everyday way.”
Karen Bolton, Head of Community & Events fundraising for Mind, said: “We’re really grateful to Astrid Simpson for choosing to support Mind. Every penny raised will help to fund Mind’s vital work including the Mind Infoline, our advice services and the campaigning Mind does to secure a better deal for all of us experiencing a mental health problem.”
