With Thrifithig being the future of fashion retail. This is strictly our opinion of course! WeThrift has uncovered the world’s best cities for thrift shopping and London landed in the first place.
According to research London scored 19.2 out of 20 and took the number one spot as the best city in the world for thrift shopping. With 74 thrift shops and 47 flea markets, it is safe to say that the English Capital thrives in the thrifting category.
With conversations about the effects of the cost of living and conversations surrounding sustainable fashion, thrifting has grown in popularity in recent years. In fact, statistics show that in 2019 sales in second-hand shops saw a 17.6 percent increase in value.
Paris came in second place and scored 16.2 out of 20, the city of love didn’t quite match up to the number of thrift shops and flea markets as London, but still managed to score highly with 28 flea markets and 54 thrift shops in the French capital.
Here’s how the rest of the cities ranked:
- London, UK – 19.2 out of 20
- Paris, France – 16.7
- Prague, Czech Republic – 14.2
- Madrid, Spain – 14.2
- Rome, Italy – 14.1
- Barcelona, Spain – 13.3
- Dublin, Ireland – 12.9
- New York City, USA – 12.5
- Singapore, Singapore – 10.9
- Taipei, Taiwan – 10.5
In third place in Prague, Czech Republic, which earns its place by scoring 14.2 out of 20, the capital has an impressive amount of thrift shops at the local’s disposal.
With 218 to choose from, this makes it the city with the most thrift shops in the world, however, the city ranks lower due to its lack of flea markets. 13 is an incredibly smaller number in comparison to the leading cities in the list.
