Skin Care Acids to Combat Summer Acne

Although more than 90 percent of people experience discomfort caused by skin rashes, most tend to let themselves go during the summer. Sunbathing can reduce facial skin rashes temporarily, although the fall often reveals face skin dehydration and exacerbation of acne. Cosmetologists say that AHA acids can not only revitalize problematic skin but also protect it from acne flare-ups.

Skin rashes are caused not only by hormonal imbalances, stress, or malnutrition – excess sunlight can also irritate the skin and cause dangerous or even irreversible issues. People who enjoy sunbathing often do not use products containing AHA and forget the consequences of acne. Thus, at the end of the summer, clients rush to the beauticians’ offices with complaints of dry skin, newly developed intense rashes, and pigment spots.

Irena Jokšienė, the founder of one of the most popular cosmetics brands in Lithuania, O.D.A., says that the sun’s rays actually reduce skin rashes, although the result is only temporary. Over time, due to impaired sebaceous gland function, the chemical composition of sebum changes, and the physiologically important antibacterial property is lost. This results in impaired metabolic processes and the accumulation of a layer of dead cells in which acne-induced skin inflammation begins.

Antibacterial AHAs can stop this process effectively.

Researchers claim that AHAs are recognized as one of the most reliable preventions in combating UV-induced skin damage, as well as stopping the development of UV radiation-induced tumors to date. They provide a wide range of benefits to the skin. Due to its antibacterial and antioxidant properties, the correct concentration of acid ensures deep cleansing of keratosis and acne-affected skin. Acids stimulate the synthesis of collagen in the skin and give it firmness.

“Cosmetics enriched with AHAs not only regulate skin’s moisture balance and the activity of sebaceous glands. They are also responsible for strengthening the skin immunity. Our specialists always advise clients with acne-prone skin to use acidic cleansers for daily care. It gently removes accumulated dirt and regulates the activity of sebaceous glands, as well as moisture balance,” says Jokšienė. “For those who enjoy sunbathing, it is advisable to use intense moisturization creams with loads of active ingredients.”

To prevent dehydration of the skin and exacerbation of acne, cosmetologists advise using cosmetics that regulate sebum secretion and reduce scarring of skin cells in the daily skincare routine. Antibacterial AHAs found in cleansers and creams are suitable for effective acne prevention. They easily penetrate through the top layer of the epidermis and help remove dead cells, thus preventing skin rashes.

“Facial skin needs care not only during the changing of the seasons or after noticing the first issues. It is necessary to ensure proper daily skincare and follow the general rules of personal and skin hygiene,” says O.D.A. founder. “If you were not able to prevent sun-induced skin dehydration and rashes, it is important not to touch it and especially don’t pop it yourselves. It is best to consult specialists in advance and prevent the occurrence of much more serious skin diseases.”
