With 2019 comes a new reality in the fashion industry. As noted in my previous post, there are many changes and mergers. Designers are playing roulette and companies are closing, all as new faces and newsmakers emerge, creating an interesting new vibe in fashion and beauty.

NEW – As the menswear shows come to a close in Paris, designer VIRGIL ABLOH‘S Fall 2019 collection for LOUIS VUITTON was a bold color forward collection, his second for the French brand which positioned Virgil to be a major fashion force for 2019. With his signature line `Off White’ doing very well, lookout for new and innovative ideas coming from this talented designer.

BIANCA – From the London men’s Fall 2019 shows, a new name is emerging on the scene. Welcome BIANCA SAUNDERS, a graduate from the Royal College of Art and her menswear line reveal new masculinity with a fresh youthful flavor. She’s from South/East London and already has a vast number of fans and followers. Biance is being hailed as the new British fashion sensation. Meanwhile, on a less happy note, news out of London comes that British fashion designerJOE CASELY- HAYFORD just died at 62 years-old. His son who was groomed to run his fashion empire is expected to take over the reins at the brand. Joe Casely-Hayford came on the fashion scene in the 90s. He was one of the first to break the color barrier in London and was able to maintain a steady grown and notoriety among British society clients. Among his clients was the late Princess Diana who loved and wore his creations.

CK – As Belgium born fashion designer RAF SIMONS exits Calvin Klein, creative differences and poor sales were pinpointed as the reasons, the brand’s CEO STEVE SHIFFMAN said in a press release that the brand will abolish most of the initiatives that Simons has put in place during his stint at the Calvin Klein company. For example, the 205W39NYC line that Simons started will be erased. Mr.Shiffman noted that the runway business will be rechristened under a new name, design approach, and creative director. According to vogue.com Mr.Shiffman said the goal for the brand is to hit $12 billion in global sales in the next four years. In the third quarter of 2018, it’s sales were reported to be $963 million.

RIHANNA – The singer, with her Fenty Beauty line under her belt, is now riding high with her SAVAGE X FENTY lingerie line. Launched during New York Fashion Week last September, Rihanna gave us a sneak peek of her new Savage X Fenty lingerie line, to be released for Valentine on her website. Heart-shaped pasties on sheer tops and bras, sexy underpants, blissful bedroom bralettes, and revealing bodysuits, make up the bulk of Rihanna’s seductive collection. They go from size 32A to 44D in bras, and, XS to 3X in undies. Priced between $20 and $68, they are all naughty but nice, and a perfect Valentine treat.

NYFW – New York Fashion Week is just around the corner (February 8-16) it looks like it’s going to be a giant season with some 105 designers listed on the main calendar, News from The ELLEN DE GENERES SHOW in LA is that Ellen will be sending `YouTube’ sensation KALEN ALLEN to cover New York Fashion Week, as her special correspondent. His OMKalen on Ellen Tube is already a hit and Kalen has already covered the Red Carpet at award shows for Ellen. Ellen also announced that Kalen will be walking for one of the big designers during Fashion Week.

BEAUTY STAR – Supermodel and Diversity Advocate ASHLEY GRAHAM serves as Executive Producer and judges for the second season of “American Beauty Star” on Lifetime TV. The show challenges 14 hair and make-up artists to produce their best work in 13 episodes. Serving as a mentor to the participants is SIR JOHN world-renowned make-up expert known for creating and transforming the looks of Beyonce’ and Naomi Campbell….just to name a few. Model Adrianna Lima will serve as the show’s host that airs on Wednesday nights on Lifetime at 10 pm EST.

MISS UNIVERSE – “Miss Universe 2017” DEMI LEIGH NEL-PETERS, just handed over her crown to a new “Miss Universe” CATRIONA GRAY of the Philippines on December 18, in Bangkok, Thailand. Without missing a beat, the 23-year-old South African beauty got engaged to former NFL Quarterback TIM TEBOW 32, during the New Year holiday. The NFL star surprised the Beauty Queen with a 7.25-carat solitaire diamond ring, during a casual walk on his family’s farm just outside Jacksonville, Florida. He also surprised Demi-Leigh, by flying her family and close friends from South Africa to Jacksonville for the engagement.

Some models are also making that dent back to the covers, like back in the day when magazine covers were exclusive “the” platform for models. British supermodel JOURDAN DUNN, the Face for Maybelline Cosmetics is featured on the February cover of Elle Magazine in the `Great British Fashion Issue’. She shares the cover with British Platinum selling, and `BRIT’ award-winning rapper STORMZY. REESE WITHERSPOON is featured on the cover of the February issue of Vogue Magazine in a stunning green gown. SERENA WILLIAMS is on the cover of Allure Magazine. Model ADUT AKECH is the cover girl for the January issue of Vogue Australia and singer FRANK OCEAN covers GQ Magazine.
